How should a Thailand passport photo look?
Thailand's unique trait is using two separate sizes by visa class: 35×45 mm for e-Visa and embassy applications, and 40×60 mm for Visa-on-Arrival. Since 1 January 2025 all Thai missions worldwide moved to the centralised E-Visa system. Citizens are captured on-site at MFA passport offices. Plain white or off-white background, six-month validity, glasses banned.

Requirements & Notes
Thai photo follows ICAO standards. White background required. Must be taken within the last 6 months.
The bodies that set the spec
The standard is published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Department of Consular Affairs; e-Visa runs through the thaievisa.go.th portal. Citizen passports are captured on-site at the Thai MFA passport office. e-Visa and embassy require a 35×45 mm print; Visa-on-Arrival requires 40×60 mm.
Workflow after the shoot
The frame goes to PhotoID Studio and the Thailand preset is selected; the app aligns the face, cleans the background to pure white and exports either 35×45 mm or 40×60 mm at 300 DPI depending on the visa class. The same frame produces both sizes in one click; for the e-Visa portal a digital JPEG is also exported.
Capture setup and direction
Seat the customer 1.5-2 m in front of the white / off-white backdrop with shoulders parallel to the camera. Camera on a tripod, lens at eye level. Standard setup: a 50-85 mm portrait lens, f/8 aperture, a softbox at 45° with a reflector on the opposite side. Cue: "chin slightly back, mouth closed, eyes fully open, neutral expression". Glasses are removed; off-white is tolerated by embassies.
Reasons for rejection at MFA and embassies
• Wrong size: a 35×45 mm print for Visa-on-Arrival is rejected; that class requires 40×60 mm. • Non-white background or visible shadow. • Glasses (Thailand explicitly bans them). • A frame older than six months. • A smile, visible teeth, or an open mouth. • Hair falling under the chin or covering the ear line. • Wrong-size file uploaded to the e-Visa portal.
For studios in Thailand
Thai studios run two sizes in parallel: 35×45 mm for e-Visa and embassy, 40×60 mm for Visa-on-Arrival. The PhotoID Studio Thailand preset locks both sizes and the digital portal export.
