How should a Sweden passport photo look?
Sweden is one of the few countries in the world where the applicant does not bring a studio print. The Polismyndigheten passport station captures the biometric photo, fingerprints and digital signature in a single session, on the spot: an anti-fraud measure. For applications filed abroad, a 35×45 mm Schengen print is submitted at Swedish missions.

Requirements & Notes
Swedish photo follows Schengen standards. Light gray or white background required.
The bodies that set the spec
The standard is published by Polismyndigheten (Swedish Police). Domestically the photo is captured live, so print recency is irrelevant for the customer; for applications filed abroad, the 35×45 mm print presented at a mission must be within six months of the capture date.
Workflow after the shoot
For applications filed abroad, open the frame in PhotoID Studio and pick the Sverige preset; the app aligns the face, normalises the backdrop to a light tone and exports 35×45 mm at 300 DPI. Two copies sit on 10×15 cm paper and the customer arrives at the consular appointment with a ready set.
Capture setup and direction
For abroad-application work, seat the customer 1.5-2 m in front of a light backdrop with shoulders parallel to the camera. Camera on a tripod, lens at eye level. Standard setup: a 50-85 mm portrait lens, f/8, a softbox at 45° with a reflector opposite. Cue: "chin slightly back, mouth closed, eyes fully open, neutral expression"; glasses come off: the police follow the same rule indoors.
Where the police or consulate send people back
• A backdrop that is not light (blue, dark grey). • A frame shot with glasses on; the police remove glasses before the capture. • A smile, visible teeth, an open mouth. • Hair covering the eyes. • Print without contrast; skin tone drift. • A frame older than six months for an abroad-filed application. • An off-size print outside the 35×45 mm spec.
Consular and migration applications
In Swedish studios the main line of work is not domestic passport photography but consular visas and Migrationsverket residence permit applications, because the police capture the passport photo themselves. The PhotoID Studio Sverige preset locks the 35×45 mm light-background format, and re-exporting the same frame for a Schengen visa is one click.
