With the PhotoID Studio desktop app you can create a custom photo size for any document used in any country, save it as a preset, and reuse your saved preset with a single click.

Always verify the size before an official application

The information here reflects the sizes commonly accepted for visa applications. Authorities can change photo requirements without prior notice, and different documents in the same country (passport, ID card, driving licence, residence permit) may require different sizes. Check the current guidance of the authority you are applying to before preparing your photo.

How should a Peru visa photo look?

Peru requires a 35×45 mm white-background photo for the DNI (Documento Nacional de Identidad: national identity document) and for the ICAO-compliant biometric passport. The photo must be submitted within six months of the capture date. The same standard applies to citizens and foreign residents.

The bodies that set the spec

DNI applications are managed by RENIEC (Registro Nacional de Identificación y Estado Civil). Passport applications are processed by Migraciones (Superintendencia Nacional de Migraciones). Both agencies require a 35×45 mm white-background photo.

Workflow after the shoot

The frame is loaded into PhotoID Studio and the Peru preset is selected; the app aligns the face, cleans the background to pure white and exports 35×45 mm at 300 DPI. The same print can be used for both the DNI and the passport. If a Colombian or Chilean visa format is needed from the same frame, switch the preset and re-export.

Capture setup and direction

Seat the customer 1.5-2 m in front of the white backdrop with shoulders parallel to the camera. Camera on a tripod, lens at eye level. Cue: "chin slightly back, mouth closed, eyes fully open, neutral expression". Religious head coverings are accepted as long as the face is not obscured.

Reasons for rejection at RENIEC and Migraciones

• A non-white background: grey, cream or coloured backdrops are rejected. • A photo older than six months from the capture date. • A smile, visible teeth or an open mouth. • Glasses glare or tinted lenses. • Head too small in the frame or poorly aligned.

For studios in Lima and other cities

Studios in Lima handle high volumes of DNI renewal and passport application photography throughout the year. The PhotoID Studio Peru preset produces the 35×45 mm white-background standard automatically, with no manual adjustment required.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Peru DNI and passport photo?

35×45 mm on a plain white background. Both documents use the same standard.

Can the same photo be used for both the DNI and the passport?

Yes. RENIEC and Migraciones both use the 35×45 mm white-background standard, so a single print works for both.

How long is the photo valid?

The photo must be submitted within six months of the capture date.
