How should a Pakistan passport photo look?

Pakistan asks for 35×45 mm white background for passport and visa; head 29-34 mm with at least 3.5 mm gap from the top of the head to the photo edge. A noteworthy point: head coverings such as hijab and turban are explicitly permitted, provided the chin-to-forehead line and both face edges remain fully visible. Citizens go through DGIP; foreigner visas go through NADRA.

Requirements & Notes

Pakistani photos accept white or light blue background. Must comply with NADRA standards.

The bodies that set the spec

The citizen passport spec is published by DGIP (Ministry of Interior, onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk); foreigner visas run through NADRA (visa.nadra.gov.pk). Both channels share the same 35×45 mm spec. Validity is six months and glasses are banned (a doctor's note is needed for any medical exception).

Workflow after the shoot

The frame goes to PhotoID Studio and the Pakistan preset is selected; the app aligns the face, keeps the chin-to-forehead line visible under a head covering, cleans the background to white and exports 35×45 mm at 300 DPI. Switching to a Schengen or Saudi format from the same frame is a one-click move.

Capture setup and direction

Seat the customer 1.5-2 m in front of the white backdrop with shoulders parallel to the camera. Camera on a tripod, lens at eye level. Standard setup: a 50-85 mm portrait lens, f/8 aperture, a softbox at 45° with a reflector on the opposite side. If a hijab or turban is worn, keep the chin-to-forehead line and both face edges fully exposed; glasses are removed.

Reasons for rejection at DGIP/NADRA

• Hijab/turban covering face edges or forehead: the chin-to-forehead line must stay fully visible. • Non-white backdrop or visible shadow. • Glasses (without a doctor's note). • Head outside the 29-34 mm range, or top-of-head gap below 3.5 mm. • A frame older than six months. • A smile, visible teeth, or an open mouth. • Hair falling below the chin or in front of the face line.

For studios in Pakistan

Pakistani studios run a steady year-round flow of DGIP passport and NADRA visa applications. The PhotoID Studio Pakistan preset locks the 35×45 mm white background and the hijab/turban check.
