How should a Norway passport photo look?
Norway captures the biometric photo for passport and national ID at the Politiet station; the applicant does not bring a studio print. Under the rules updated from 2024 glasses must come off: even for daily wearers: and hair must not cover the forehead line. For abroad and UDI applications a 35×45 mm light-background print is submitted.

Requirements & Notes

The bodies that set the spec
The passport and ID standards are published by Politiet and UDI. Domestic capture is live, so print recency is not a concern; for UDI or consular submissions the 35×45 mm print must be within six months of the capture date.
Workflow after the shoot
For abroad and UDI cases, open the frame in PhotoID Studio and pick the Norge preset; the app aligns the face, normalises the backdrop to a light tone and exports 35×45 mm at 300 DPI. The frame must show the forehead line uncovered by hair.
Capture setup and direction
For abroad/UDI work, seat the customer 1.5-2 m in front of a light backdrop with shoulders parallel to the camera. Camera on a tripod, lens at eye level. Standard setup: a 50-85 mm portrait lens, f/8, a softbox at 45° with a reflector opposite. Hair is brushed back from the forehead and glasses come off. Cue: "chin slightly back, mouth closed, eyes fully open, neutral expression".
Where the police or UDI send people back
• A frame shot with glasses on; medical exception requires a certified note. • Hair covering the forehead line or eyebrows. • A backdrop that is not light; visible shadows. • A smile, visible teeth, an open mouth. • A frame older than six months (abroad). • Head turned or tilted in the frame. • A print outside the 35×45 mm spec.
UDI and consular pipeline
In Norwegian studios the main line is UDI residence and family-reunification work; passports are captured by the police. The PhotoID Studio Norge preset locks the 35×45 mm light-background frame, and re-exporting the same shot for a Schengen visa is one click.
