With the PhotoID Studio desktop app you can create a custom photo size for any document used in any country, save it as a preset, and reuse your saved preset with a single click.

Always verify the size before an official application

The information here reflects the sizes commonly accepted for visa applications. Authorities can change photo requirements without prior notice, and different documents in the same country (passport, ID card, driving licence, residence permit) may require different sizes. Check the current guidance of the authority you are applying to before preparing your photo.

How should a Indonesia visa photo look?

Indonesia uses two separate formats: a 35×45 mm print for the citizen passport, and a digital photo of at least 400×600 px, ≤2 MB, for the e-Visa. White background is preferred for the new biometric scanners; the older red background is being phased out for ICAO compliance. Applicants are told to wear non-white clothing; coloured contact lenses and glasses are banned.

The body that sets the spec

The standard is published by Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi. The citizen passport photo is printed at 35×45 mm; the e-Visa expects digital JPEG at a different size. Validity is six months and the two specs from the same authority run in parallel.

Workflow after the shoot

The frame goes to PhotoID Studio and the Indonesia preset is selected; the app aligns the face, cleans the background to white for biometric scanners and exports a 35×45 mm print at 300 DPI. For e-Visa the same frame is exported as JPEG at ≥400×600 px (≤2 MB). Switching to a Schengen or Singapore format from the same frame is a one-click move.

Capture setup and direction

Seat the customer 1.5-2 m in front of the white backdrop with shoulders parallel to the camera. Camera on a tripod, lens at eye level. Standard setup: a 50-85 mm portrait lens, f/8 aperture, a softbox at 45° with a reflector on the opposite side. Cue: "chin slightly back, mouth closed, eyes fully open, neutral expression". The customer wears a dark colour to contrast with white; coloured contact lenses and glasses are removed.

Reasons for rejection at Imigrasi

• Wrong size: prints other than 35×45 mm are rejected. • White clothing blending with the backdrop; applicants must wear contrasting colours. • Coloured contact lenses or glasses (a hard ban for e-Visa). • Old red backdrop incompatible with the new biometric scanners. • A frame older than six months. • A smile, visible teeth, or an open mouth. • e-Visa file above 2 MB or below 400×600 px.

For studios in Indonesia

Indonesian studios run two parallel outputs: a 35×45 mm passport print and an e-Visa digital file. The PhotoID Studio Indonesia preset locks both formats; switching to a Schengen or Singapore format from the same frame is a one-click move.
