Brazil Biometric Photo Size

35×45 mm, ICAO 9303

How should a Brazil passport photo look?

Brazil uses two formats. Old-model passport and applicants under 5 require a 5×7 cm (50×70 mm) printed photo; online renewal uses a 35×45 mm digital image (413×531 px). The most unusual rule is the print surface: matte paper is mandatory: glossy prints are rejected. For new biometric passports, the photo is captured digitally on-site at the PF appointment; printed photos apply only to the old model and young children.

Requirements & Notes

Brazilian passport photo follows ICAO standard. 35×45 mm size with white background required.

The body that sets the spec

The standard is published by the Federal Police (Polícia Federal: gov.br/pf); passport, ID (RG) and nationality matters all sit with the same authority. The photo must be submitted within six months of the capture date. White background, no shadows on the face; accessories and glasses are not allowed.

Workflow after the shoot

The frame is sent to PhotoID Studio and the Brazil preset is selected; the app aligns the face, cleans the background to pure white, and exports a 5×7 cm print at 300 DPI for the old model. Output goes to the printer loaded with matte paper; glossy paper is never used. For online renewal, the same frame is delivered as a 413×531 px digital image.

Capture setup and direction

Seat the customer 1.5-2 m in front of the white backdrop with shoulders parallel to the camera. Camera on a tripod, lens at eye level. Standard setup: a 50-85 mm portrait lens, f/8 aperture, a softbox at 45° with a reflector on the opposite side. Cue: "chin slightly back, no glasses, mouth closed, neutral expression". Verify skin tones on screen before printing on matte paper, because the matte surface softens contrast.

Reasons for rejection by the Federal Police

• Non-matte print: the entire frame is rejected if printed on glossy paper. • Wrong format: 35×45 mm sent for the old model, or a digital image for a child application. • Non-white backdrop; colour cast or texture. • Accessories covering the face, eyebrows or chin; a beanie or wide head covering. • Glasses worn; any kind of frame is rejected. • A frame older than six months from the capture date. • A smile, visible teeth or any non-neutral expression.

For studios in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília

Brazilian studios see steady traffic year-round from old-model passport, ID (RG) and child applications. The PhotoID Studio Brazil preset produces both the 5×7 cm print and the 413×531 px digital file from the same frame; the default profile is set for matte paper.
